Applying for colleges and universities means completing lots of applications. Actually, more than five college applications are sent out by the average student. That’s  tedious and time sucking!

The Common App allows you, by completing one online form, to send applications to multiple colleges and universities.

What is Common App?

The Common Application is an online software-application used by college candidates to apply to multiple colleges and universities at the same time. Common app simplifies the whole process of application by helping candidates to reduce the stress of filling out the same data over and over when applying to different colleges.

Is Common App Legit and Safe?

The Common App has been trending for over four decades and the app is accepted by more than 900 member colleges and universities in all 50 states and the District of Columbia, as well as in Canada, China, Japan, and many European countries.

 Try not to be anxious about the possibility that that universities will try to ignore The Common App than their own application—they will not. Hence, Common apps are legit and safe.

Is Common App Free?

The app is owned by a non-profit organization. The app is free to use. However, Students who are applying to colleges that have an application fee will have to pay that cost when submitting their applications(the cost can range from $30 to $75 per application). The interesting fact is that 46.5% of member schools don’t charge application’s fees according to information provided by the app company.

How Common App Works?

Through the Application, first-year and transfer candidates alike can apply to various institutions at once. So students only have to fill out information that most colleges require including letters of recommendation, GPA, transcripts, name, address, parental employment and education and extracurricular activities, one time.

Are Common App Deadlines At Midnight?

The deadline of any application is midnight of the actual day that the application will close. All application materials should be submitted by 11:59 pm on the deadline date posted on your Platform. The end of the deadline date is in your local time zone, not the college’s time zone. Note that all timestamps are recorded in EST (US Eastern Standard Time). Failure to do so will lead to problems.

Where Is Resume And How To Submit It On Common App?

 Applicants can add their resume to their common app under the writing tab in the additional information segment. A student can use their resume to further state their activities.

 The common app opens on August 1, 2020 for applicants who are hoping to begin school in Fall 2021.

Common App Essay Prompts 2021

The Common App is used by hundreds of schools, so it’s possible that any school you apply to can read your personal statement. This is your opportunity to say a story about yourself that shows us more than your test scores and grades do… to let universities know about the wide variety of talents, qualities, beliefs, and interests that have, demonstrating that you are prepared to attend college.

Common App has announced that the 2020-2021 essay prompts will remain the same as the 2019–2020 essay prompts.

1. Some students have a background, identity, interest, or talent so meaningful they believe their application would be incomplete without it. If this sounds like you, please share your story.

2. The lessons we take from obstacles we encounter can be fundamental to later success. Recount a time when you faced a challenge, setback, or failure. How did it affect you, and what did you learn from the experience?

3. Reflect on a time when you questioned or challenged a belief or idea. What prompted your thinking? What was the outcome?

4. Describe a problem you’ve solved or a problem you’d like to solve. It can be an intellectual challenge, a research query, an ethical dilemma — anything of personal importance, no matter the scale. Explain its significance to you and what steps you took or could be taken to identify a solution.

5. Discuss an accomplishment, event, or realization that sparked a period of personal growth and a new understanding of yourself or others.

6. Describe a topic, idea, or concept you find so engaging it makes you lose all track of time. Why does it captivate you? What or who do you turn to when you want to learn more?

7. Share an essay on any topic of your choice. It can be one you’ve already written, one that responds to a different prompt, or one of your own design.

Which Common App Prompt Is The Most Popular?

Option #7 (topic of your choice) was the most popular in the 2018-19 admissions cycle, according to the folks at the Common Application, and was used by 24.1 percent of applicants. With 23.7 percent of applicants, the second most common was Option #5 (discuss an achievement). Choice #2 for a loss or failure was in third place. The option was preferred by 21.1 percent of applicants.

Which Common App Essay Is The Best?

It can be difficult to determine which Application Essay is best suited to your unique context and experiences, with 7 prompts to choose from. Also, given that every year thousands of students are admitted to college, I hope we can all accept that there is no “best” topic on which to write your essay on the Common App. It’s not the theme that makes a college essay solid, but the personal and reflective story that emerges from that theme.

Can Common App Essay Be a Poem?

Can I Submit Common App Before Transcript?

If you aren’t able to get your transcript before you need to submit your application to a required college for a deadline, that’s okay. Select “No” in response to the “I have access to my transcript(s)” question. Your application will not be penalized and the college will still get your official transcript from your counselor.

Can Common App Essay Be Changed After Submitting?

After you have submitted it, you can make any number of changes to your Common App essay and any other aspect of your application. These adjustments will not, however, be reflected in applications already submitted; they will only be reflected in potential submissions. If you wish to make adjustments to an essay that you have already submitted to a college, you may need to contact the admissions office of that school to see if it is feasible. We only recommend doing this if your essay has a significant error, as it will not reflect well on your proofreading ability to attempt to alter your essay slightly after submission.

Can Common App Detect Plagiarism?

The Common App does not check for plagiarism. The majority of individual colleges or universities may or may not check for plagiarism. Instead, if anything looks suspicious, an admissions officer of a school can scan your essay to see what comes up. If it is clear that you have plagiarized your essay, recovering from it would be very difficult (and you are very likely to be denied).

Does Common App Crash?

Most Apps, not only Common App, do experience technical issues (a CRASH) once in a while. Common App always provides a solution to the temporal issues by telling various schools to extend their deadlines.

Some schools will also provide an alternative way to send an application.

Can You Print Common App?

When all questions have been answered and the application is ready to be submitted, students may print a preview of the submission in its entirety. The Common App is paperless, so students can not print and submit to colleges a paper copy of the application. Without the preview watermark, only admission offices are able to print applications. This is to ensure that many applications from one student are not accepted by colleges.

In order to discourage students from completing the application online but not applying online, the watermark was added at the request of colleges.

Who owns Common App?

Common App is operated by the employees of a non-profit membership organization (The Common Application, Inc.) and administered by an 18-member voluntary board of directors drawn from the ranks of deans of college admission and counselors of secondary schools.
